New ladies only kickboxing class

Since the last newsletter, I have also started a new ladies only kickboxing class which is going great. The class is a fitness based kickboxing class and already the class is showing great promise and the ladies are going from strength to strength. We still have a few spaces remaining and if you know of anyone that would like to come along please get in touch with me.

Seminars

Since the last newsletter, we have hosted Guro Brendan Westwood the UK Director of MKG for a 4-hour seminar in Kali and Jun Fan kickboxing. We looked at some single stick training, stick and dagger, and trapping drills with a partner and on the focus pads.

I also taught a seminar alongside my friend and teacher Mick Tully in January. This seminar looked at Kata Bunkai incorporating the 1st movement from each the Pinan Series into a flow drill. We then looked at some takedowns, some ground fighting, and pad work drills again good fun was had by all.

The next seminar coming up is with “Mittmaster” Matthew Chapman:
Sunday 4th March Andrew Rheeston Martial Arts have the pleasure of hosting “Mittmaster” Matthew Chapman (www.mittmaster.com) as our first guest instructor of the year. The content of the seminar is yet to be decided but the pad work will certainly be fun and relevant to a multitude of martial arts. All levels welcome, the seminar will cost £30 per person and can be paid by bank transfer (contact Andrew Rheeston for details) or PayPal following the link for tickets on the event page. Payment on the day also accepted if prior agreement giver by Andrew so contact him to book your place.

This seminar will be held at Team Black Belts Dojo on Lode Lane in Solihull from 12:00pm until 16:00pm, I will be teaching the first hour and then Matthew will take over at 13:00 for his portion of the seminar.

Changes to grading sheets

Many people have recently been asking for videos of Kata or pair works so students can watch and practice at home. Due to this, I am in the process of making a series of DVD’s which people can buy instead of using the paper manuals I have been handing out. I’m hoping to get these out sooner rather than later and will let everyone know when they are available.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I will have more content added from next month if there is anything you would like to see in these newsletters Kata performance or bunkai videos, the link between karate and kali etc please let me know and I will do my best to get any question included in the next newsletter.

If you would like to host me for a seminar, are interested in any of our classes or if you would like to have to some private training I can be contacted at andrew@armartialarts.co.uk or by telephone on 07929 989 720

See you all again soon and take care 🙂
