May 2016 Newsletter
Another great month of classes and plenty of preparation for those ready to grade in June. Grading are booked in for Saturday 18th June and I will issue times out over the next week or two. Again, a big thank you goes out to all the students and friends that support our classes, without you the club would not exist.
This month has been a really great one for me, as well as teaching our regular Karate and Kali / Jeet Kune Do classes I have also taught a 2-hour seminar for my friends at Atherstone Karate Club, taught some private classes and walked on fire!
A few more things are up and coming and I will share the details of those when they become available.

Class Write Ups
The family class is continuing to progress excellently, throughout May we have continued to work on grading requirements and a grading date has been set for Saturday 18th June. We have continued to focus on basic techniques, Kata, pair work and we’ve had had time for some fun and sparring too. The adult Kali and Jeet June Do class has again also been going well, with everyone progressing through the system and working will with the weapons and on the pad work. My teacher Mick Tully has been over on occasion to take the class also which is fantastic.
I’m pleased to say that I have been invited to regular training sessions in order to progress through the Minnesota Kali Group Instructors system and the first seminar will be on 10th July, this will bring a fantastic new opportunity for me personally and for Andrew Rheeston Karate in general.
On Sunday 26th June Phil Norman will be coming to teach a session on his Ghost system and survive self-protection system at John Henry Newman Catholic College from 10:30 – 14:30. Price of this seminar is £35 pre-booked and £45 on the day, spaces are limited so please contact me to book and pre-pay for you place. Payments can be taken through PayPal or via cheque, message me for PayPal or address details for payment.
Mick Tully Seminar
For the second time this year Mick Tully has agreed to teach another seminar for us and this will be on Saturday 6th August venue and content for this seminar is still to be agreed and I’ll update the Facebook page and the website with details as soon as they are available.
Andrew Rheeston Karate seminar
I will also be teaching a 4-hour seminar myself in September and again details for this will be coming shortly.
As I said during the introduction I taught a seminar for my friends at Atherstone Karate Club for the younger students we looked at some generic practical Karate and self-protection, the adults and higher grades of the group looked at chokes and locking techniques.
On Saturday the 6th February my friend and teacher Mick Tully came and taught a 4 hour Kali seminar for us which had us looking at double stick, single stick, Jun Fan kickboxing, trapping and pad work. It was an absolutely brilliant seminar and we’ve already got Mick booked in to do another seminar next year. But I’m hoping to arrange another with him later this year too.
I also mentioned that I took part in firewalk to raise money for the Three Trees Centre where the classes are held of a Thursday evening so that some renovation works can take place. So thank you to everyone that sponsored me for this in total I raised over £170, there is a video on the Andrew Rheeston Karate Facebook page of the firewalk. I enjoyed so much that I’d like to book one in for everyone at the class to have a go at it too. So I’ll let everyone know the details of this as they materialize.
I have had an increase in requests for private one to one and small groups classes recently which is fantastic so if any of the regular students would like someone to one coaching or anyone reading this would like a private session then please get in touch using the details below. I have also just finished teaching my self-protection course at Coleshill Heath School which was a fantastic experience for me and I’m now in the process of setting up more events at other local schools.
Thanks for taking the time to read this I will have another newsletter available next month. If you have got any questions or if you would like me to teach a class or seminar for your group then please contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org or give me a call on 0792 9989 720.
